Bayern Munich has rattled off three straight wins to kick off the new year. Gladbach and Wolfsburg kept it close while Hoffenheim was praying for no stoppage time. During this stretch, six different players have scored the team’s nine goals. Feyenoord is on a rare three-game winless streak in the Dutch Eredivisie.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two clubs, but the first since the 2001/02 Champions League group stage. Bayern earned four points in those two matches. Feyenoord’s only win against Bayern came in the 1962/63 Intertoto Cup group stage.

Bayern is currently in first place of the Bundesliga and 10th place in the Champions League. Feyenoord is currently in fourth place of the Eredivisie and 18th place in the Champions League.

Team news

Here is the predicted lineup, courtesy of kicker:

This lineup is nearly identical to the Wolfsburg match over the weekend. The only difference is Jamal Musiala replacing Kingsley Coman and pushing Michael Olise back to the wing. Besides the battle at the number eight (Leon Goretzka vs Aleksandar Pavlović), this has been Vincent Kompany’s preferred lineup.

The match will be officiated by Frenchman François Letexier. The last time Letexier worked a Bayern match, he (correctly) sent off Dayot Upamecano in a 1-0 loss to Lazio.

Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry both have two yellow cards during the 2024/25 Champions League campaign. With the final group stage match against Slovan Bratislava expected to be a formality, it’s possible that both players pick up unnecessary cautions against Feyenoord to earn a clean slate entering the knockout rounds.

From an injury perspective, Hiroki Itō, João Palhinha, Daniel Peretz and Sacha Boey are still training individually but unavailable for the match. It’s worth noting that Josip Stanišić might see his first action since August.

Feyenoord runs a four-back system. The 4-3-3 has been the most effective formation for the Dutch squad, including wins against Benfica and Girona plus a draw against Manchester City. However, it failed miserably in the 4-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen. Santiago Giménez leads the team in scoring with nine goals in all competitions.
